Great customer service and time is managed properly with regards to waiting. Returning customer and they always acknowledge you when you walk through the door by name. Definitely recommend if your in the denton area and need your car serviced.

DISCLAIMER: I am a former employee of this shop and have not held an ongoing friendship (or any other sort of relationship) with anyone working at this shop. I have worked at a few automotive repair shops that some would call "Mom and Pop shops" in the past and have found something quite spectacular with Barebones. They are truly the most honest shop that I have ever had the pleasure of working for. The owner, John, is a very knowledgeable mechanic that knows more about cars than most mechanics that I have met. He is willing to go out there and pick up some slack that is caused by the very heavy flow of loyal customers that he has accrued. The front man, Stephan (pronounced Steph-an), has created an unbreakable relationship with each and every customer that walks through the door. He goes out of his way to make sure that the customer is not having to pay outrageous prices to keep their car driving safely, and will prioritize a work order with what needs to be done immediately vs what can wait til some more money is saved up to fix it. He is an EXTREMELY charismatic man that will do whatever it takes (except lie) to make sure his customers feel safe. As for the technicians, they made a deal with the owner to provide free diagnosis's to the community because they don't want people afraid of going to a mechanic. They are genuinely good humans, and are AMAZING mechanics. The European specialist will not let a cheap part go into the vehicle because he does not want a customer to come back for the same complaint, he wants them to leave with the problem fixed, not patched. The diesel tech... he is slow at what he does, but tremendously meticulous about making sure things are done correctly the first time. You will need patience but you will not be disappointed. The other two technicians that do pretty much all the other vehicles, they are more concerned with the customers safety than the size of their paycheck. They will go back into a job and check out a vehicle if they believe that they did anything sub-quality. I have gone through and read a few of the negative reviews of the shop and remember some of those customers. I am sure that all of them were caused by a miscommunication by said customer. The best way to keep from having a bad experience at any automotive shop is to ask as many questions until you are %100 comprehensive of what is going on. If I were someone that had no idea how to work on vehicles, I would tow my car the 32 miles from my house to that shop because I trust them to fix my car correctly, and cost effectively. I hope this helps at least one person looking for a quality mechanic.

I have been going to Barebones for all of my car maintenance and repair needs for almost two years now. Whether it's vehicular inspection, oil changes or repairs, this is the place to go. I can sometimes be confusing while communicating the issues I am having with my car - especially when describing funny noises - but they are patient and find the problem easily. Their quotes are usually accurate. At times they will over-quote so that customers are not surprised by a higher bill in the event that materials/labor end up costing more. I have no problem with being pleasantly surprised by a cheaper bill the off chance their price was overestimated. :) I am very impressed with their services and will continue to go there in the future.

They are always great and very helpful. Never over charges for things like Firestone, etc. They usually have your car back you within a few days, if they can. They treat you like family. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Just wished they had a location closer The colony than Denton. But its definitely worth the drive out there every time my husband and I always take our cars out there for both of our vehicles. We tell all our friends and family about this place.

From the moment John answered the phone until the moment Stephan checked us out, the overall service was beyond professional and friendly. We had no idea where to go to get our Dodge Ram looked at the day before leaving on our road trip that we had been planning for months. We called the dealership first hoping they could get us in fast but said noway. We did a little google research and after reading the reviews for Barebones we decided to give them a shot. And we are so glad we did! The truck had a strong vibration and very loud noise. We didn’t want to drive it and planned on having it towed. John with Barebones sent the tow truck (saving me another phone call...thanks John!) and after just a few hours Stephan call with the diagnosis. He said it was the first time he had seen this.....a dirt dauber nest on a fan was causing the imbalance! All they needed to do was remove the nest and our truck was back to normal! We were prepared to pay for a brand new fan, or new engine maybe....so thank you Barebones for your honesty and extremely kind service. We are now your loyal customers!

Repaired my partner's car in resonable time for a good price. Will be returning for my AC.

I recently had some major work done at this shop on a newer car that my daughter nearly drove to death. New motor, brakes, AC compressor and dryer. Waited a couple weeks for this review to see how the car would hold up and Im happy to say we've had no issues at all. Im a trucker so I deal with alot of bad mechanics out here so its really nice to find good guys that know what they're doing. They quoted me a price (a very reasonable price considering the amount of work to be done) and got to work. They ran into a few problems which any normal person would be expecting, but most importantly they found a solution, explained what they were going to do and handled it. These guys really deserve all the good reviews here. Thanks so much for doing such a great job and we will definately be using your shop from now on.

This is the second time Ive taken my car to them. I thought I had a blown engine. Turns out it was a loose oil filter. They could have sold me a new engine. I seriously wouldnt have known better. Instead it cost me 36 dollars. I will always give them my business and will recommend them to anyone in need of repairs. Oh and they got my car at 1:30 pm and I picked it up at 5pm same day....And they're open till 6 on sunday. True lifesavers!!!

I came to this shop to get new brake pads, and I couldn't be more happy about going here. I waited a few weeks to write the review to see how well the brake pads were installed and so far I haven't had any issues with them. Their waiting area is very clean, and accommodating. They've got a coffee maker, which I recommend you use. Overall, their schedule and experience should be enough for newcomers to try this shop.

Went for the vehicle inspection and they were very quick and objective. Besides that, feels like a place you can trust. It’s my new preferred vehicle service location.

These guys are very underrated, and next to Dave's, they run the most ethical shop that I know of in town. Will do a $10 state inspection, also. Very accurate with their estimates, and very fair pricing; I take my Ford Flex there, but I believe they handle pretty much all makes and models. For what it's worth, they have a very nice waiting area too.

They have a student discount for state inspections, and they've checked out my car with no appointment whenever I was worried something was wrong. They check out the car for free, the only thing you'd pay for is if there were repairs needed. It's a quick errand to go there, the staff is friendly, the place is clean overall, and they do not nickel and dime you!

I've been a customer with John since he was working out of his garage. A family member recommended him to me, and I've not gone anywhere since. He's saved me at least twice the amount of money I would have spent otherwise, and he's always been honest. No nickel and diming here, if he tells you there's a problem, you should listen.

This is the absolute best auto mechanic ever! I was referred to the owner, John, back when he was working out of a "rent-a-bay" in 2009. I had fallen on hard times financially and he did high quality work at extraordinarily affordable rates. His quality work spread by word of moth so quickly that within a few years he owns his own facility with 16+ bays, lifts, front-end alignment, diesel repair, tires and window tint services. All of his mechanics care about doing the job right and his Service Adviser, Stephen, id both gregarious and extremely knowledgeable. John and his staff have saved me literally thousands of dollars keeping my two older vehicles in reliable, quality running condition! You cannot find a mechanic of higher integrity. They will never sell you anything you don't need but will never fix something and leave it unfixed either. They give warranty on all their work/parts. Love these folks!

I try to only bring my car to Barebones. I don't live in Denton, but go to school at UNT and only plan my visits when I'm in Denton if I can help it. They are so nice, helpful and reasonable. Really fantastic people. I had some issues with my car last summer that kept reoccurring and they never charged me more for having to bring it back in on that same problem. Highly recommend them.

My daughter was in Denton and got into an accident on a Saturday night. The tow truck driver recommended BBAR because they are open on Sunday. The people are so helpful and friendly and knowledgeable. They had her back on the road on Sunday evening. Wonderful honest efficiant work.

I've been here a couple times for routine maintenance and cosmetic instances and Barebones has always been courteous, professional, and honest. I came in for an oil change one time with my own oil and filter and they charged me $10 out the door, giving me a special price because I'm a disabled U.S. Army veteran, and during the change, the mechanic did a thorough check on all the wearable parts on my truck. He told me that my left rear shock was leaking a little bit of hydraulic fluid and said it wasnt bad enough to warrant replacement, but that I should be aware of it. When I checked out, I got a quote on replacing my rear shocks and they were extremely helpful. They quoted me a price but what surprised me was that they gave me options and steered me to look at other alternatives outside their shop. I am sitting in their shop right now while they redo my front windows tint so that it will pass inspection (which they are also doing) this year. Honest, hard-working, professional, stand-up guys. Had a grinding noise and vibration on my car, so being the DIYer that I am, I attempted to fix the problem myself. I checked for broken hub bearings, warped brake rotors, loose or broken struts, and even a broken cv axle. I couldn't find anything, so after a week of searching, a guy at Autozone recommended this place to me. Brought in my car and they took it for a spin around the street. Came back and went straight for the front wheels. Broken bearing, which I couldn't detect. They found the problem right away and was even able to fix it that very same day! If I had done it myself, I would've had to order the hub bearing and have it shipped to my house 3-5 days later! I'm glad the noise is gone and even happier that it was done in a single day. Another thing to mention is that while I was there, a few customers came in and the man at the desk knew them all since they were repeat customers. All I can say is that if there are people repeatedly going here because this place is "their" mechanic, then it's got to be good. I'll definitely go here again if my DIY attempt fails.

John and his staff are the best. He has on more than one occasion finished the repairs well below the original estimate! Who does that? He also is very kind and helpful and does not take advantage of some of us that don't know a whole lot about engines, transmissions and such. I recommend Barebones to anyone who has a car or truck. This shop operates with a high level of integrity that's unheard of in the auto industry. They also have the most reasonable prices in Denton. Don't go anywhere else.

I had the transmission replaced on my Dodge Caravan. The whole thing was shot and the van would barely move. Replacement was the only option. They got a new transmission in (it was used) and replaced my old one. The new tranny wasn't working right. They found the issue and got it covered by the tranny supplier (no expense to me, of course) and had it fixed the next day. My car was delayed about three days due several other complications with this car, but I don't think it's the garage's fault. The work was great and everything runs perfectly now. My only negative comment is lack of communication. I had to call in for almost all the updates on my car and so knocked off a star.

My 2011 Buick Enclave air conditioning was not functioning properly. Barebones Auto Repair fixed the problem and significantly more reasonable than dealer pricing. Works better now than when new.
